Who We Are

First Love started on a campus, with a handful of students.

In 2012, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills gathered a few students in a small chapel on the University of Ghana, Legon campus. That was the beginning of First Love Church.

Today that church has grown past ten thousand members in Accra, and First Love congregations meet on every continent. It began the same way we are beginning: students, a borrowed room, and a conviction that Jesus is worth everything.

First Love Church Seattle is that same church at the University of Washington. We believe in Jesus, soul winning, and working for the Lord all day long. We preach holiness, we pray for one another by name, and we hold the door open for every student who walks in — any year, any major, any amount of doubt.

Our name is our aim: the first love of Revelation 2, the affection for Jesus a person had at the very beginning, kept burning rather than left to cool.

Doors open

Come early if you want to meet people first. There is usually coffee, and someone will find you.

Worship

Twenty-odd minutes of singing. Lyrics are on the screen. Sing loud, hum along, or stand there quietly — all of it is fine.

The Word

Someone teaches from a passage of Scripture for about half an hour, aimed at the week you are actually living — classes, money, dating, doubt.

Prayer

We pray for each other. If you want someone to pray with you about something specific, you can ask. If you would rather not, nobody will approach you.

Food, and nobody in a hurry

This is the part people stay for. Lunch, arguments about the message, plans for the rest of the day.

A smaller group working through a book of the Bible together, out at U Village Green. Questions welcome, especially the uncomfortable ones.

The hardest part of a first Sunday is the walk in. Here is what is waiting on the other side of the door.

Wear whatever you own

Hoodies, sweats, whatever you rolled out of bed in. Nobody is checking.

You will be out by 12:30

The service runs about ninety minutes. People hang around after for as long as they want.

Nobody will put you on the spot

You will not be asked to stand up, introduce yourself, or give money. Sit in the back and just watch if you would rather.

Come alone, leave known

Most people showed up alone the first time. You will leave with numbers in your phone.

We will meet you at the door.

Message us before Sunday and someone will be waiting outside Spratlen Hall to walk up with you. It is the thing we are happiest to do.
